Govt to auction 70-80 mineral blocks by year end

The Union Mines Secretary Balvinder Kumar has said some 70-80 mineral blocks are likely to be put on auction by the end of 2016. Meanwhile, seven blocks have been allocated through auction and for another 35 blocks, tenders have been issued.

Recommendations soon on usage of surplus domestic coal

The government-appointed committee is expected to come out with its recommendations soon on the usage of surplus domestic coal from captive mines. The committee is headed by the Planning Commission Member BK Chaturvedi.

Panel on surplus coal usage to submit report soon

By the end of this month, the panel headed by BK Chaturvedi to look into the possibility of utilisation of surplus coal from captive mines by power utilities, will submit its report to the Union Coal Ministry. The panel is looking at utilising surplus coal by creating a bank or a common pool that will supply the fuel to the power utilities.

Coal Ministry to review surplus coal usage

To determine mandatory rules for the use of surplus coal from captive mines, the Union Coal Ministry has started fresh round of discussions with other involved ministries including Power and Steel. The matter has been kept in abeyance for the last two years. As per the Coal Mines (Nationalisation) Act 1973 which oversees captive mining, all coal mined from the block must be used entirely for the respective end-use project.

Proposed regulator to fix price of surplus coal from captive mines
